Kakao Games Makes Strong Debut in Korea

Kakao Games Corp, the gaming subsidiary of South Korea's popular messaging application operator Kakao Corp , made a strong debut on Thursday in South Korea. Its share price hit the daily change limit of 30%.

 

한국의 인기 애플리케이션 카카오의 게임 자회사인 카카오게임즈가 목요일 한국에서 데뷔했다. 주가는 일일 변동 한도인 30%에 도달했다.

 

Trading on the tech-heavy Kosdaq market, the company’s shares opened at KRW48,000 ($40.41) per share on Thursday morning, while its IPO price was KRW24,000 apiece. The company’s market cap surged to KRW3.5 trillion ($2.95 billion). The anticipation that video gaming will get a boost from more people staying home due to the pandemic supported Kakao Games’ share price. The company provides games across various platforms, such as PC, mobile and VR, and it distributes its games to North America, Europe and other parts of Asia.

 

코스닥 시장에서 거래된 회사의 주식은 1일 오전 주당 4만8000원에 개장했으며 IPO 가격은 2만4000원이었다. 시가총액은 3조5000억원으로 급증했다. 코로나바이러스로 인해 집에 있는 사람들이 늘어나면서 비디오게임이 활성화될 것이라는 기대감이 카카오게임즈의 주가를 따상시켰다. 카카오게임즈는 PC, 모바일, VR 등 다양한 플랫폼에 걸쳐 게임을 제공하고 북미, 유럽 등 아시아 지역에 게임을 배급한다.

 

Kakao Games’ strong debut also benefited the parent company, which owns a 46.08% stake in the video game publisher. Kakao Corp (KS:035720)’s shares traded 0.39% higher at KRW385,500 ($324.54) by 10:45 PM ET (3:45 AM GMT) on the main Kospi market. China’s gaming giant Tencent Holdings Ltd (HK:0700) also saw its shares up 2.28% at HK$515.5 in Hong Kong. 

 

카카오게임즈의 강력한 데뷔가 비디오게임 출판사의 지분 46.08%를 보유하고 있는 기업들에게 유리하게 작용했다. 코스피시장에서 카카오(KS:035720)의 주가는 이날 오후 10시45분(오전 3시45분)까지 38만5500원에 0.39% 올랐다. 중국의 거대 게임업체 텐센트홀딩스(HK:0700)도 홍콩에서 2.28% 상승한 515.5달러를 기록했다.
